Cideng River Retaining Wall Repairs Next to SMESCO Set to Finish in October

The repair of the Cideng River retaining wall along Jalan Gatot Subroto in Pancoran, South Jakarta—right next to the SMESCO building—is on track for completion by early October 2026.

We are restoring 142 meters of retaining wall

South Jakarta Maintenance Section Head, Junjung Paulus highlighted that the project aims to reinforce the structure and keep Cideng River safe and properly functioning.

"Through a third-party partner, this project follows direct field monitoring to bring safety and peace of mind to the surrounding community," he expressed, Tuesday (9/15).

He explained that the repairs, which have been underway since July 2026, cover both the left and right banks of Cideng River, spanning 71 meters on each side.

"In total, we are restoring 142 meters of retaining wall, standing about two meters high," he clarified.

He added that personnel are using full concreting to build a much stronger foundation. It will keep the riverbanks safe and functioning at peak performance.

"We're committed to optimizing our infrastructure so the river can flow smoothly, especially when the heavy rains hit," he noted.

Junjung added that the project is all about improving the environment and supporting the local community—with plans to roll out similar work in other spots soon.

"We're taking full advantage of the dry season to repair riverbanks and dredge drainage channels so we can stay ahead of rainy season flooding," he explained.

"Hopefully, it will be wrapped up soon. The sections of the retaining wall that have been repaired already look much sturdier," he concluded.
